1/1/11 - "4:57 PM - December 26th, 2010"

While the blizzard of last Sunday was picking up steam, the streets of Manhattan - and, more surprisingly, the normally extremely popular tree at Rockefeller Center - were becoming nearly deserted; as evidenced by this image. There was only one passerby, one person admiring the tree, and one security guard - barely noticeable, in this picture - huddling under the branches, for a little protection from the falling, blowing and drifting snow. This photo was shot - comfortably - from inside the second story satellite studio of the Today Show, at 10 Rockefeller Plaza.

This next picture was shot a few hours later:

This is how the sky over Rockefeller Plaza looked, as last week's blizzard kicked into high gear. The spire of St. Patrick's Cathedral, which is normally visible over the top of this building at One Rockefeller Plaza, was nowhere to be seen.

The last photo for today, and my final edited picture from last week's blizzard, was shot a few hours after the previous image:

By this time, they had closed off access to the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Plaza. Normally, it stays lit until 11:30 PM; and, especially on a weekend night, the crowds around the tree are thick as flies. But last week they actually barricaded off the plaza surrounding the tree; there was only a sole security guard present, who's barely visible standing under the lower branches, for what meager protection they might have provided.
