"Sunday in the Park with Swans"
I chose this title, with full apologies to both Georges Seurat and Stephen Sondheim. But it being Sunday morning and the view, of Seaman's Neck Park, I could not resist. I will resist the urge to try and equate my work with any created by either Seurat, the artist, or Sondheim, the composer/lyricist.
After shooting some pre-sunrise images, which avoided including anything of the park - or of any waterfowl - I purposely started composing a picture of the parks' lights and their reflected images. These appear to complement and extend the color palette of the sky. The sudden arrival of this skein of swans struck a harmonious and contrapuntal chord with me; so I re-framed the shot a bit differently and took two, quick photos. This slightly cropped and tweaked picture was the first, and best, of the two. Afterwards, I shot three more photos of the early morning sky: One of those, a black and white version, will be tomorrow's Picture of the Day.
So while I successfully avoided directly relating this image to any creations by either of the gentlemen obliquely referenced, I simply could not resist slipping in a few nouns and adjectives from their respective crafts.
