"Mid-Air Refueling"
This year, for the first time ever, Sally and I got to watch about half of the annual Memorial Day Weekend Jones Beach Airshow from our boat. We motored to a small cove, just east of the fishing piers by Parking Field #10. The picture above was shot as we were anchored amongst two dozen other boats, just north of the iconic water tower known colloquially as either The Needle or The Pencil. I did "re-locate" the two aircraft somewhat, in relation to the foreground, using Photoshop - strictly for compositional purposes.
"Then and Now"
This second image from the airshow was shot later that same day from my back deck, which is about three miles (as the proverbial crow - or in this case, historical aircraft - fly) from Jones Beach, after Sally had to leave for work. I did crop this image from a much wider shot, as I don't have a telephoto lens for my camera - yet! But I do have a full-sized sensor on my Canon 5D, which does allow for a judicious amount of enlarging - without serious degradation of the picture quality.
