First completed in 1830 as little more than a blazed path, which eventually became a carriage road connecting the towns of Warren and Woodstock, it was improved over time to accommodate increasing tourist needs. Segments of this road were incorporated into NH Route 118, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935, while other portions were abandoned. Somewhere along this road, near to where the green arrow is on the Google Map below, is the location of the scenic overlook we stopped at.
