Barged Right In-Land
The 4"x4" post that held my electric connection was bowled right over by our house barge, the night of October 29th, when Superstorm Sandy - with her 8' or so of storm surge - assaulted the tri-state area. This electrical service hookup was just over a year old, having been replaced in early September of 2011, after Hurricane Irene paid us a visit. (The gray electrical box mounted on a 2"x 6", spanning two pilings along the bulkhead, was the new service I installed in 2007, shortly after moving in.) A year prior to that, the "Storm of the Century" hit us, in March of 2010, snapping our rear two pilings.
The strongly-angled piling was bent over as the chain on the northeast corner of our floating home worked its way up, and finally over the top of, that piling. The piling on the northwest corner of our barge was pulled out of the bay by its chain, and dragged about 70' across the marina parking lot, before falling off in the street, as we settled in at a boatyard across the street. I'm beginning to think that I may want to become a landlubber again.
