Hyalophora cecropia

I was about half a mile into an 11 mile mountain bike ride when I spotted this four-inch long caterpillar. It was crossing Upper Awosting Carriage Path at Minnewaska State Park in Kerhonkson, NY. With any luck, this guy will grow up to be a Cecropia Moth, North America's largest native moth! It is a member of the Saturniidae family, or giant silk moths. Females with a wingspan of six inches or more have been documented.
