The Palisades
During the Triassic Period, 30 million years ago, semi-molten igneous rock is forced upward through a fissure in the earth’s crust, to form giant vertical crystals of diabase lava, which over eons form a sweeping, thirty mile-long cliff face on the western shore of the Hudson River.
