A Close Encounter
One of a pair of rattlesnakes I came across while on the Appalachian Trail in Vernon Township, NJ. They were entwined, just off to the side of the trail, basking in the afternoon sun. One of them slithered off before I could snap a picture, but this one wouldn't move at all. After a bit of a stand-off, I eventually walked around it, but with much trepidation.
