"Lichen Landscape"
I was originally going to visit Bayard Cutting Arboretum in Great River yesterday, but at the last moment I decided to stick closer to home. I had firewood to split and bring inside; grocery shopping to do, so I could cook dinner for Sally - who, unlike me, had to work yesterday; and a few other chores and errands to take care of. So, instead, I went to Seaman's Neck Park, which is - literally - a good, long, stone's throw away from our back deck and dock; but by car, it's about a 15 minute drive.
My original plan there was to shoot a few bay-front landscapes, but the maple trees just inside the park's entrance caught my attention. I shot about 20 exposures of them as I walked south through the park. While returning to my car, via a ball field that was a veritable mine zone of goose droppings, this lichen on a tree trunk instantly captured my eye. I took 5 different exposures, and what you see here is the 5th and last. I rotated the image 90 degrees clockwise because A: My last two "Pictures of the Day" have been urban verticals, and B: I believe it plays better visually oriented as a landscape, as opposed to a portrait, photograph. I next slightly cropped and tweaked it in Photoshop CS, and attempted to upload it to deviantART - for the benefit of their copyright protection; also, posting my photos on dA very conveniently allows me to market high quality prints of my images. Unfortunately, it's been very time consuming, lately, trying to get uploads through to their site. Case in point: It took well over an hour of continual attempts this morning before I was able to get this picture through. My guess is that they need to beef up their servers (again).
After returning to my car, I drove to the southern-most parking field and shot another 30 photos, including some of the best that I've been able to get yet of the migratory Brant. They'll remain in this area until about early April, so I should have many more opportunities to get an outstanding shot or two of them - especially after my premier lens returns from the shop, where its' receiving a cleaning.
