"Under Meadowbrook Parkway"
After a barrage of outgoing phone calls yesterday morning, concerning the situation of impending doom here (see the story beneath yesterday's Picture of the Day for more details), in the afternoon I decided to go for a boat ride. Plan A, to visit a certain bay house in Baldwin Harbor, was thwarted - as the tide was not high enough to gain access, without risk of being stranded there until the next high tide, which wouldn't have occurred after midnight.
Plan B, to do some seal watching, was a success! I had four seal sightings, although it's hard to tell how many - if any - were of the same seal. My guess is that I saw at least two different seals, as the first sighting was much nearer to Jones Inlet than the other three. I also spotted some sea gulls I'd never seen before, as I drifted in the waters north of Short Beach, which I later identified as Bonaparte Gulls.
On the way home I spent some time idling through the channels, between the pilings that support Meadowbrook State Parkway, as it makes its' way to Jones Beach. Today's picture is one of the resulting photos. This short boat trip was the perfect antidote to the mornings' mayhem.
