12/03/10 - "Delta Lady"

"Delta Lady"

Unfortunately, I have not just returned from New Orleans - a place I have yet to visit; and this newly refurbished paddle-wheeler does not cruise the muddy waters of the great Mississippi River. It's berthed right here on Long Island, at Captree State Park in NY. She features an air calliope with player piano, tall stacks and a rear paddlewheel. The Delta Lady can accommodate 149 passengers, and is "the newest catering hall on the water for discerning Long Islanders" - as stated on their website.

After finally getting my lens back from its' cleaning late Monday afternoon,  I decided to celebrate yesterday by taking a ride out to Captree via Ocean Parkway. It's been a favorite photographic location of mine for many years. I shot 15 exposures there before heading south on Robert Moses Causeway to Field 5, the eastern-most parking lot at Robert Moses State Park, and walked east towards the Fire Island Lighthouse - another favorite go-to place for pictures. While there I shot another two dozen images - primarily of the lighthouse. One or two photos may be worth uploading here; but, as daylight was fast-fading, I may wait until I get another chance to re-visit and re-shoot this south shore icon before posting any of them. I've photographed this lighthouse a number of times over the years, but I'm anxious to get a great, new shot of it with my new camera and lens combo.
