"Edge of the Bay"
This morning, despite it being only 30 F outside - with a wind-chill of about 18 - I decided to take my boat out for a ride. It's a small center console, with no protection from the cold, but I wanted to take advantage of the extremely high tide associated with the nearly full moon. This allows access to some of the bayhouses which are situated on shallow channels.
The bayhouse I ended up visiting today - 699 Ned's Creek - is one I haven't been to before. It's one of about 34 that remain, in the southern bays in the Town of Hempstead. Once there were hundreds of these houses, dotting the many small islands nearby; but today, due to the ravages of weather and the building of two state parkways - to provide access to Jones Beach State Park - only these scant three dozen are left. I'm trying to visit and photograph each one, as well as the bayhouses in the Town of Islip - which is further east, in Suffolk County.
