2/22/11 - "Trees 4, Evergreens 3"

"Trees 4, Evergreens 3"

This was the view looking east down 67th Street, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, early yesterday afternoon. I snapped this shot from outside the entrance to the Fox 5 studios, after arriving there from NBC, for a 3 pm to 11 pm shift last night. I had done a 4 am to 12 pm call at NBC Monday morning, after previously doing a 3 to 11 call at Fox Sunday night. While I was at NBC, I took 9 photos as the snow was still falling, shortly after 6 am. One of those will appear as tomorrow's Picture of the Day, and I may embed another shot or two also.

These pictures were all shot with my old Canon Digital ELPH, which I have recently resumed wearing on my belt - just for situations like this. I've been carrying my netbook to work with me in my backpack a lot, recently; and, for the last few days, I've also been lugging a new 2 terabyte Western Digital external hard drive, which leaves no room for my Canon 5D. The little ELPH still takes some great shots, and I love always having a camera with me, but eventually I want to upgrade to a newer compact camera. The new PowerShot SX 130, with a 12X optical zoom (equivalent to 28 - 336mm on a 35 mm camera) and image stabilized lens, might just fit the bill. It can also shoot 1280 x 720 HD movies, with stereo sound!

If this sounds like a paid testimonial for Canon products, I assure you it's not (although I wouldn't be adverse to that). But having owned two digital point and shoots, and now a full-featured digital SLR of theirs, I've become very enamored of their products. I'm also a big fan of B&H Photo and Video in Manhattan, where I've bought all my cameras - including my old Nikon film cameras - as well as my new hard drive.
