As I had some time yesterday morning, before having to head into Manhattan for work, and being pretty well rested after my first day off in a week - and getting a good night's sleep, for a change - I decided to go on a little photo expedition. I chose Mill Pond Preserve in Wantagh, as it's nearby and has a trail that circles the pond.
The weather was warmer than it's been for the last two months, and it felt good to get out into the woods that surround this 15 acre pond. There were numerous waterfowl - mostly mallards and Canadian Geese, some swans, a few American Coots and what looked to be some scaup in the distance. But this White-Fronted Goose was right near where I parked my car on Merrick Road.
I've cropped this image from the somewhat larger original photo, for a closer look at this goose and for a slightly more dramatic composition. I also used auto-adjust levels, which mainly just increased the brightness and contrast a tad.
