"Stormy Saturday Morning"
This photograph was captured at a little after 6 am, on August 22nd of 2009. It is one of four shots - 2 horizontal and 2 vertical - I took, looking to the east, as this storm was approaching. There's another shot I took looking west, three minutes later, that I've never posted before. It's even more ominous looking; and I was going to embed it here as well, but the laptop I'm using at work will not let me upload it from my compact flash card. Damn you, corporate gate keepers! I'll have to upload it tomorrow morning from home, and retroactively add it to today's blog.
Aside from the very colorful clouds, there were two other things that struck me about this image. The first I noticed right away, and it would be the wispy clouds directly under the copyright notice, that are actually rain showers. The second item, which I didn't catch until I'd enlarged the photo as part of the editing process, is the plane that's just barely there - about to fly out of the frame, to the left of the copyright. The grasses in the foreground, at the bottom edge of the picture, are weeds that were growing in a large ceramic flowerpot, on the corner of my floating dock. This snap is the only one of the four I shot that included them, and I feel like they add a lot more depth to the final image.
I originally posted this picture, and two horizontal versions, on deviantART the day of the storm. This image received, by far, the highest number of "favorites" of the three - enough that it's the 5th Most Favorited picture of mine on dA. It received 29 favs and has had 211 viewings - not a lot, by dA standards; but very good, for me.
