3/2/11 - "Mid-town Manhattan Skyline at Night"

"Midtown Manhattan Skyline at Night"

Yesterday's picture of the Empire State Building from Bryant Park drew the largest number of viewings on a first day of posting ever - enough to vault it into second place on the Top Ten list of most-viewed pictures! It's a nearly 5 year old picture, and was taken with a digital point and shoot that only had 3.2 megapixels, so I was a little hesitant about posting it at all. Seems like it received most of its viewing via twitter, a function I didn't start using until January 19th - about two months after starting this blog. I had resisted, at first, because I didn't know how steep the learning curve would be. But, with seemingly everything digital nowadays, it was pretty easy to start using - and I'm very glad that I did.

Today I thought I'd follow up with a previously unpublished photo of mid-town Manhattan at night, also featuring the Empire State Building, as well as the Chrysler Building, the Met Life Building - which was formerly known as the Pan Am Building - and the relatively new Bank of America Tower. This image is from the rooftop bar 230 Fifth, during a pre-tape for Carson Daly's New Year's Eve special on NBC. Back in December I posted 4 Pictures of the Day from this same location; none of those pictures are on the Top Ten list anymore, but I've a feeling that - if I'd been promoting my blog as much back then as I am doing now - one or two of them might still be there.

Out of curiosity, I just looked up the chart that shows the color schemes for the lights on top of the Empire State Building; and for Dec. 16th of last year, the night we were taping, the reason listed was "Filming." I wonder how much the city charged for that!
