3/5/11 - "Interstellar Icebergs"

"Interstellar Icebergs"

No, this is not another photo manipulation; and it was not altered in Photoshop in any major way. Aside from adjusting the contrast and brightness a bit, deepening the blacks via Selective Color, increasing the saturation somewhat and using a little Gaussian blur filter to smooth out some inherent noise - all relatively minor tweaks - this image appears exactly as it was photographed.

Intentional movement of my camera during the one second exposure time transformed this photo of cracked paint on a window into an otherworldly image, one that resembles what I think insterstellar icebergs would look like - if they did indeed exist.

This picture was shot on a stairwell at EUE Studios, on East 44th Street in Manhattan, while working on Rachael Ray. Since taking this picture in 2008 that stairwell has been proclaimed off limits, and is now behind a fire-alarmed door. I have a goodly number of images I've shot there, though; and a few more of them will show up here in the future.
