3/25/11 - "Construction Down Under"

That would be down under Second Avenue in Manhattan, where they are finally working on a long-delayed, new subway line for the Upper East Side of the city. This new line, which is - temporarily, at least - being labeled the T train on an MTA map, will run from 125th Street in Harlem to the financial district downtown.  It will also include a connection through the 63rd Street tunnel to existing tracks, for service to West Midtown and Brooklyn.

The blurs in the foreground of this photo are from a chain link fence which surrounds the perimeter of this site near 70th Street,  which I had to shoot through to capture this image. If I had used my compact point and shoot, I could have shot through the openings in the fencing and eliminated those blurs, but I kinda like them. They add a sort of mysterious, ethereal element to the picture - a certain je ne sais quoi.
