"Walloon Church - New Paltz, NY #2"
Today's picture is the fifth and final image I submitted to Mill Street Loft in Poughkeepsie, NY, for possible inclusion in an upcoming juried show. I should find out by May 5th whether any of my photos were accepted or not. In the meantime, I'm working on submissions for three or four more shows - even while I'm anticipating next Friday's Opening Night Reception of my first-ever juried show, at The Huntington Arts Council's Main Street Petite Gallery.
Walloon Church, which is also known as The Crispell Memorial Church, was first erected as a primitive log structure in 1683. In 1717 a stone church was erected, but was torn down when a larger replacement was consructed, a little further north on historic Huguenot Street. The building now, as seen in this image, was reproduced during the years 1965 through 1972 - in its current location, adjacent to a burial ground, that was in use until the middle of the 19th century.
