From the old Yankee Stadium
As a life-long Yankees fan, one of the best parts of being at Yankee Stadium for the Pope's visit three years ago was being able to visit Monument Park for the first time. It was situated next to the Yankees' bullpen, which is where we were set up - along with all the other media who were present that day. I also had a chance to visit the dugout, and sit on the player's bench for a little while. It was an incredible experience, as was standing on the warning track in center field and drinking in the majesty of that glorious and historic stadium.
Sadly, they've torn the old stadium down now. But they are supposed to put build a new community park, with three ballfields and trees planted to delineate the footprint of the former House That Ruth Built.
While the new stadium is an impressive structure on its own, with all of the modern conveniences and high tech accoutrements which are becoming common now, it has none of the charm and few of the fond memories that were so prevalent in its predecessor.
