I believe that this now stand-alone building was, originally, the kitchen to the William Floyd summer house, located in Mastic Beach, NY. It now serves as the office for the National Park Service park rangers who are stationed here. This estate, which was donated to Fire Island National Seashore in 1965, contains 613 acres and includes the original 6-room house, which was built in the 1720's. After a series of enlargements, the house now contains 25 rooms; and there are also twelve outbuildings on the estate, one of which is featured as today's Picture of the Day.
