     I spotted this ripening seed pod two weeks ago, while hiking up the path at Flume Gorge, in Franconia Notch State Park - near the heart of White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire. The green arrow, on the Google Map linked to above, points to Flume Gorge path.

      Native American tribes would utilize the roots of the trillium for medicinal purposes and pick, cook and eat the greens.
