A Bad Sign
Any time a power pole is down, blocking a street, it's not a good thing. But this traffic sign, which was knocked over by one of the four house barges (or maybe it was the lone house boat) that were uplifted and forced inland by Hurricane Sandy, sends a mixed message. On the left, just above the flattened chain link fence, one of the two house barges that capsized is visible; and to the right of the seven stored boats is one of the two "Houses of Doom" - as Sally and I like to call them - constructed here so far. We call them that because, eventually, nine more may be built, forcing us from the premises.
There was another house barge that sank, as well as one house boat. And a large, old, wooden cabin cruiser was stranded ashore in the marina; yet, miraculously, two house barges remained in place - virtually unscathed. One other boat, and a house boat conversion, also survived the storm in place. We were not one of the fortunate few who 'stayed in port', however.
