"Peacock"
This is actually two different peacocks.
The tail feathers are from a second male, who was standing on the floor of the enclosure. I hadn't even noticed him until I clicked the shutter. My reflection can just barely be noticed in the peacock's eye.
Photo taken at the Suffolk County Farm in Yaphank, NY.
I shot this picture with my second digital point and shoot, a Canon PowerShot S230 Digital Elph: An extremely compact, 3.2 megapixel, little gem of a camera. One of the things I loved most about it was that it was so small I would wear it on my belt, in a small pouch (which still had enough room for a spare battery and extra SD card) every day. Always having a camera ready for immediate use enabled me to take many pictures that I would otherwise have missed. Even if I had had a full-sized digital SLR with me on this day, I would not have been able to take this shot, as the pen the peacocks were in was covered with wire mesh whose openings were only about a half inch wide. With the tiny lens this camera had I was able to shoot through the mesh, without capturing any wire in the shot.
I was able to take many great photos with this little camera; and when it died on me - after about two years of heavy use (and some abuse) I purchased a Canon PowerShot SD1000 as a replacement. I'm still using this little camera occasionally, despite the beatings it's taken over the last four years, even though I'm now (finally) shooting mainly with a full-sized digital SLR - a Canon EOS 5D.
