11/10/10 - "This Morning's Sky"

"This Morning's Sky"

Day three of blogging.

The learning curve isn't quite as bad as I'd expected, but I don't have anywhere near the viewership I'd hoped to achieve. I hope that that will improve with time. On a more positive note, the learning curve for my new Canon EOS 5D wasn't nearly as steep as I'd feared it would be. In less than a week I feel very comfortable with all of the controls, menus and functions, and I'm taking photos everyday.

I've tried to institute a new feature here called "Picture of the Day". It seemed to work, at first; but now it does not seem to be cooperating. (P.S. It's STILL not cooperating!)

A little more back story about  my goal to become known for 'Art Photography'. One day, about four and a half years ago, I had an early meal period while working at NBC. It was about 10 am and, as I'd already had a full breakfast, I wasn't hungry. Across from 30 Rock (home to NBC Studios) is Christie's auction house. As it just so happened, they were having an exhibit of contemporary photography that would soon be going up for sale.

I ascertained from Gil - the super-nice valet, doorman and unofficial greeter to all who arrive - that anyone was free to peruse the lots being auctioned. Feeling completely out of place at first, in this palace of fine art, and alone amongst the people who purchase them, I never the less looked at every photograph on display. I was astounded; not so much by the quality of the work (as there were many for sale that, imho, were no better than work I was already doing) but by the estimated sales prices. These ranged from around $50,000 to $150,000!

I vowed to myself then and there that I could do this. And so I'm continuing on that path, taking the next step, and then the next, next step, until I get there. My girlfriend Sally likes to quote sayings from the Maharishi for me. Here's one of her favorites:

I Like this quote I dislike this quote“Whatever we put our attention on will grow stronger in our life.”
