"Red Maple Leaf Ragged"
I shot this photo a little over two weeks ago, at Seaman's Neck Park. It was, at that time, my choice for "Picture of the Day". But I chose to post a different picture for Thanksgiving, and then another picture from the same days' shoot the next day; so this photo got pushed aside - until now.
What I love about this picture is the subdued, somewhat somber, palette of colors; and the shallow depth of field that focuses on the ragged edge of the red maple leaf in the foreground, with its grey-blue reflected light from the sky above, helps to make this image memorable.
With the onset of winter now only eleven days away, I'm sure that these leaves are no longer hanging onto their branches. It's been below freezing here for the last few days, and these last few icons of autumn passed have now been relegated to the past.
