1/10/11 - "Two States of Matter"

"Two States of Matter"

In this image, the substance vital to life in all its known forms - water - exists in two of it's three states, as a liquid and as a solid. As a liquid, it appears as condensed droplets, covering the surface of this window. In it's solid state, it forms the out of focus background - a blanket of wind-swept snow - on the ground outside this indoor pool and spa.

This photo was captured Saturday morning in Fairfield, Iowa; while the temperature outside was nearly arctic, at about 5 degrees Fahrenheit, the climate inside of this room was semi-tropical.

Sadly, today we leave Iowa and head back to New York and reality. I would have loved to spend some more time here - especially as they're expecting 6 to 10 inches of snow today into tomorrow - and venture out in search of more photo ops, but it's fortuitous, travel-wise, that we're leaving when we are. Tomorrow, it seems, it's N.Y's turn in the barrel - again.
