1/22/11 - "Frozen Fruit"

"Frozen Fruit"

After leaving Winterset a year ago - and two days of visiting the covered bridges in Madison County, Iowa - we returned to Fairfield, to discover that the town had been magically transformed via an ice storm while we were away.

"Frozen Fruit 2"

While "Frozen Fruit" was shot in the parking lot of Fairfield's Walmart, this photo - as well as the next image, and the two black and white versions - was of a bush in the yard of the house where Sally was living. Two days hence, we were on our way to New York in a U-Haul truck, towing her minivan on a trailer behind us. The trip took two and a half days, but the weather was mainly in our favor.

Another image of the same shrub, but using the built-in flash function of my Canon Digital ELPH SD1000 point and shoot: For a pocket-sized camera, it took very nice pictures.

"Frozen Fruit 2 - B&W"

I think I prefer this black and white version over the full-color image; but I've posted both, in an effort to satisy both camps.

"Frozen Fruit 3 - B&W"

As with "Frozen Fruit 2" I prefer this black and white version. It's more dramatic, and has a timeless quality that color doesn't possess. But I feel it's helpful to be able to compare the two styles.
