1/5/11 - "Wishful Thinking"

"Wishful Thinking"

It was Tuesday, December 28th, 2010; two days after last weeks' blizzard. My girlfriend Sally called me, after she got to work, to make me aware of this incongruous scene. I took my camera with me, as I went to run some errands, but I passed right by this house - the first time - without remembering to stop and snap a shot.

I had to return home, whilst running said errands, as I'd forgotten something. On my second pass by I remembered what she'd told me. I stopped and squeezed off one shot, from the far side of the street; framing out the truck that was delivering propane gas, and partly obscuring the front of this canal-front home in Seaford: That photo was less than satisfactory.

After finishing my errands - and after bouncing the front right wheel of my car off a curb, while in a long skid, as I was negotiating a sharp, still snow-covered curve in the road - I stopped one last time, to take this second and last photograph. I love the icicles hanging from the gutter-less eave, and the unshoveled snow drift on the front door step, which serve to frame the tropical poster on the front door of this house, that is sorely in need of a little TLC.
