"Post-Yule Log Burning"

There's nothing like a good fire in your wood-stove on a cold night; except, maybe, finally having a camera capable of capturing the moment for posterity - and having someone special beside you to share it with!

When I moved in to my house-barge, a little over three years ago, there was a wood-stove here; but it was a rusty, old, little pot-bellied type stove - with a jury-rigged flue pipe - that I was afraid to even light a match near, much less start a fire inside. I had it removed, and - later on - a neighbor did fire it up once, out in the parking lot. The damned thing leaked smoke like a sieve! So, about a year later, I ordered this Osburn stove; had a tile layer come in and put down a proper hearth (the old stove sat on a black, rubberized mat); and had a local fireplace store install the stove. This entailed lining the flue with a stainless steel insert, and ended up setting me back more than I had planned. But the benefits are invaluable! When I get a good fire going, it heats the house to about 73F all by itself - at least the top 3/4's of the 1,100 + square feet of living space that I currently utilize (the three upper levels of this front to back split level: the lowest level is basically just storage, for now). Eventually, the 1st floor will contain a second bedroom, an additional bath and a laundry area, and will probably need another heat source - aside from what I get out of the existing oil-fired hot-air furnace; but those are projects for another day.
