This root that looks like a stone outcropping obviously gathered some moss; maybe not on it, but definitely all around it. I photographed this image, as well as the last three days' Pictures of the Day, on my visit to Massapequa Preserve last Sunday. It was a short but productive trip, as I still have two or three more pictures to post from this mini-excursion, before I move on to a different subject. It may be a photo I shot at Yankee Stadium, on Opening Day last Thursday - or, it may not.
All of the photos I took on Sunday were with the use of my new tripod, a Vanguard ALTA 204AP. Along with the PH-12 Panhead, this aluminum alloy tripod weighs just under three pounds and collapses small enough to just fit inside my little knapsack. While it's not as tall as a full-sized tripod, its small size and light weight make it very convenient to carry; and because of this, it will probably see more use than a heavier, full-sized version would. It was also less expensive. I do think I'll pick up a right angle viewfinder to use with it, though. It would come in handy both while standing up or, more importantly, while shooting at a lower elevation. I haven't decided yet whether to go with one made by Canon, or to buy a much cheaper version from another manufacturer.
On a different note, I just received an email notifying me that at least one of the 10 images I submitted last week, to a juried photography show at the Huntington Arts Council here in NY, has been accepted into the show! I'm very excited, and can't wait to get the official notification in the mail. The Opening Reception will be on Friday, April 29th 2011, from 6pm - 8pm. The show itself will run from April 26th through June 10th. I will definitely be there for the opening reception, as it will be my first one. I wasn't able to attend my first-ever gallery exhibition in Fairfield Iowa last month, but there's no way that I will miss this night.
